SPEED OF LIFE is an American Library Association Notable Children's Books Nominee and is now at Amazon and Indies! You can even preorder the Audible book! The New York Times Book Review says it's "funny, perceptive and moving...I laughed out loud and I teared up while reading this novel. I will eagerly place it on my daughter's bookshelf so that she, like Sofia, can find her own resilience and voice in our painful, joyful, speeding world.” The New York Post says it's "Required Reading." It also got starred reviews in Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal and Booklist. May I read you the first page? Here you go! I'm on TV too: NY1 and Twin Cities Live. And on NPR's WOSU.
I've been "Dear Carol" at Girls' Life since 1994, and SPEED OF LIFE is inspired in part by the letters girls write to me. There's even a Dear Kate! It's also inspired by my losing my own dad when I was too young to bear it... The novel is for ages 11 and up and is also about first love and blending families. It is set in NYC, Westchester, and Spain.
Let's say hi.
I've been on Today and Oprah but what I really *love* is meeting readers at signings and schools. I can even Skype your school in English or Spanish or French. ¡Sí! ¡Sí! Oui! Oui! I'll be in Chautauqua at the Smith Library Tues Aug 1 at 3:15 and Author's Alcove at 4. In Dallas, Interabang Books on Sept 2 at 3 (after a visit to Ursuline Academy). Find me in Eastchester's Barnes & Noble Sun Sept 24 from 12 to 4. And at Book festivals this fall in Chappaqua, Warwick, and Princeton. In NYC, I'm speaking at Nightingale, Oct 6, and at the New York Society Library Nov 9 at 6:30. More to come. PS "Skype Moment of the Week" and "Publishers Weekly Photo of the Day"!
The first of my 16 books, GIRLTALK: All the Stuff Your Sister Never Told You, came out in a dozen languages. AVA AND PIP, AVA AND TACO CAT, and AVA XOX are also now in paperback. They're the diaries of a fifth grade "word nerd" with a passion for palindromes, ideal for ages 8 to 12. The New York Times says AVA AND PIP is "a love letter to language" and "perfectly captures the complexities of sisterhood." Enjoy this quick video about the series, available at Indies and Amazon.
Poke around to watch helpful videos, read very personal essays, and guess who's who on my fun Hall of Fame photos. Click on my Facebook page, and Twitter or Instagram. Check out my books in libraries, or buy Indie or Amazon. In School Library Journal, you can read Five Things I've Learned From Being an Advice Columnist. Husband Rob Ackerman is a playwright and does props for SNL. Daughter Lizzi has a pancake business, Birch Benders, and was on the Today Show and in HuffPo. Daughter Emme, whose name is a palindrome, is an archivist for NBC. And we all love our old rescue cat Mike.
